Bonesong
A lesbian space mystery in which a magically gifted black scientist has to science against time to save those she loves, distracted by falling in love with a mysterious non-verbal girl who is a puzzle unlike any Minka knows.
The Story
In the dead of night, Minka Rowan runs.
She's a black scientist and Songtouched, gifted with the power to see into people's bodies, to see what ails them. But her own magic is killing her, a force she can barely control. If she can't find a way to overcome it, everything she's fighting to save - to heal - will slip away.
Together with Varen, her best friend, she's running towards the Aurora, the greatest research ship humanity has ever built. It's her chance to find a way to cure her sister's illness, and to control her power that is slowly destroying her.
The Aurora greets her with a request: the Songtouched are dying, and Minka is the only one who can figure out why. If she can use her Song. If she can survive it.
And then there's Inaya. Quiet. Enigmatic. A gracity well Minka can't seem to escape. This girl, whose silence hides secrets darker than anything Minka could fathom.
As her research makes progress towards a harrowing truth, Minka is torn between her growing feelings for Inaya and her duty to save her sister - to save all of the Songtouched - before it's too late.

The Research
// RESEARCH LOG - Arcister M. Seiruka
// SPECIALIZATION: Petrology & Crystallography
========================================
PROJECT: Stabilisation of organic materials encased in Song growth crystals for later revitalisation.
METHODOLOGY: Crystals grown within 3-5 minutes (min 02:54 minutes, max 05:03 minutes) around single leaf specimens of Eprinat Auretil (3cm in height) through Song (Arcister Milosyn Seiruka). Specimens left encased for various amounts of time before breaking open the crystals and inspecting the specimens via visual inspection, microscope, and Maricunial.
FINDINGS: 2 specimens with live cells past natural duration of the specimens. Salt detrimental. Quartz and Citrine held longer lasting specimens. Aquamarine, Moonstone, and Garnet took a longer time to grow, exhausting. Test with smaller specimens when pursuing potential use.
STATUS: More research required. No use for Project Chrysalis so far. More research required.
========================================
PERSONAL NOTE: Singing is becoming... Not harder. But it takes. Takes it out of me. Not literally. I’ll be in the Med Wing for a few days. The new Arcisters will be coming soon. Project on hold for the time being.

Homeworld: Ara
Ara
Fourth of the thirteen planets orbiting Donisya, Ara is mostly known as the breadbasket of the System. The planet has been cultivated into wide expanses of rolling farmlands broken up by lush forests, deep lakes, and rushing rivers. Endless views of crops cared for by automated farm equipment are broken up only by the even grid of cargo trains leading to the space ports, farm houses, and the occasional reactor.
